St. Nick

Today St. Nicholas placed candy in all the children's shoes that were left outside our door. Here is a brief history of St. Nicholas. He had a reputation for secret gift-giving, such as putting coins or candy in the shoes of those who left them out for him, and thus became the model for Santa Claus and from where American Christmas stockings developed. In Germany the children put a shoe outside their bedroom doors on the eve of Saint Nicholas Day and hope to find candy, coins, or a small gift in them on December 6. In the Netherlands, children put their shoe sin front of their chimneys in hopes of finding chocolate or a small toy in their shoe when they wake.
The children were very excited to see what was left for them.
